Chris Brown

Chris has 20+ years of experience working on large-scale business events in the UK, China, SE Asia and Hong Kong. Originally from the UK, Chris has lived and worked in Hong Kong since 2015.

The challenges of living sustainably while developing a greater understanding, and concern, for the threats of the climate emergency compelled Chris to “rethink” his own personal contribution and how he could best make a positive impact on Hong Kong – a city he is so proud to call home.

Chris launched ReThink HK in 2019 – a new event concept for uniting the business and sustainability ecosystems, championing collective action and shared responsibility.

Chris’ experience in with healthcare events in the UK, where partnerships and collaboration were crucial to success, has provided the foundation to engage an extensive network of stakeholders to help rapidly scale ReThink HK, with the first three editions hosted in-person throughout COVID in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Widely recognised as Hong Kong’s best attended event for the business of sustainability, the 4th edition last month hosted over 6,000 attendees. Chris has maintained the event’s impact pledge; with over HK$1.5million of delegate fees donated to projects with local charities.

Proceeds generated from delegate pass sales for ReThink HK, from the 2023 event onwards, fund impact projects and NGO capacity building programmes via the newly incorporated ReThink Foundation, registered by guarantee as a not-for-profit organisation.

The ReThink Foundation will support the work of local Chapter 88 NGO organisations and provide funding and resources for social and environmental impact projects that facilitate greater collaboration between the charities.

Chris is passionate about collaboration believes that together we can create a cleaner, greener and more sustainable cities, for everyone. His ambition is to build on the momentum of the Hong Kong event and take the ReThink model to new markets, utilising the power of live events to make a real difference.

Chris received a BA in International Business and Italian from the University of Plymouth (UK), is a member of the BritCham’s Social Sustainability Committee, and sits on the ExCom and Sustainability sub-committee of the Hong Kong Exhibition & Convention Industry Association.
